Chris Jent (born January 11, 1970) is a retired American professional Basketball player and coach in the NBA.
Jent was born in Orange, California and grew up in Sparta, New Jersey. After attending high school at Sparta High School, he played college basketball for the Ohio State Buckeyes, leaving in 1992 after four seasons. He had a brief career in the NBA, playing three games each for the Houston Rockets (winning a championship ring in 1994) and New York Knicks (1996-97). In between his stints with the Rockets and the Knicks, he played with the Australian National Basketball League (Australia)'s North Melbourne Giants in 1995 and also played in Serie A (basketball), Spain and Greece.
As a manager, he was an assistant coach for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2003-04 season. The next season he worked in the same capacity with the Orlando Magic, and was appointed interim head coach for the final 18 games of the 2004-2005 season (going 5-13), after Johnny Davis (basketball) was fired. At the start of the next season he was replaced by Brian Hill (basketball coach). From 2005-2008, he backed up Mike Brown (basketball coach) at the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In the SNES NBA 95 video game, his name is misspelled as Chris Dent.
He has a nephew in Sparta New Jersey that will break his 2,000 point scoring record
